Dr Espinosa Custodio joins the IAHRS

2023 has started off on the right foot at Instituto Médico del Prado. Dr. Espinosa Custodio joined the IAHRS (International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons), one of the most important hair medicine societies in the world. A fact that only puts the doctor one step higher to be recognized as one of the best.

The IAHRS defines itself on its website as “an organization and movement, united in a collective effort to inform patients about the scope and pitfalls of this demanding cosmetic procedure”. The society itself admits that being accepted into this group of professionals, in addition to “recognizing elite surgeons, also does so by supporting the truth in their advertising campaigns.”

Among the mission of the IAHRS, the society states that it admits only those physicians who meet the highest standards of medicine, ethics and professionalism; they promote the art and science of hair restoration. It also advocates that they preserve and promote the highest medical integrity and ethics among surgical hair restoration professionals, as well as encourage the advancement of research and application of the most advanced techniques. Finally, in terms of professional relations, this organization promotes honesty and communication with patients and encourages fellowship among hair restoration professionals to share their knowledge.

The elite of hair surgeons

Currently, 61 doctors from all over the world are listed on the IAHRS roster. More than half of these are from the United States, although there are doctors from all over the world, such as England, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Switzerland and Bangkok. Dr. Espinosa Custodio, for his part, is the only Spanish member of this association at the moment.

In addition, the North American association has a code of ethics that must be accepted by all members and followed to the letter. Among the most important points, patients are recognized as the first concern of the IAHRS and the professional is asked to exercise independent professional judgment without being influenced by external pressures. By always focusing on the patients, it ensures that no unnecessary or harmful treatments are performed, or that the patient rejects them, as well as guaranteeing that they will not take advantage of the patient’s emotional or financial state.
