Botox or hyaluronic acid? Hyaluronic acid or Botox? Both are among the most popular treatments in aesthetic medicine, alongside mesotherapy and chemical peels — but it can sometimes be difficult to know which one is right for you. Would you like to learn more about both? Read on!

Botox

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that relaxes muscles. When administered in appropriate amounts, it can be applied to various areas of the body to achieve this effect — although in Spain it is only permitted to inject it into the upper third of the face.

It is particularly effective for treating expression lines on the face, but it also has other medical uses, such as addressing bruxism, hyperhidrosis, and even migraines.

After the injection, the patient will need to return to the clinic within a few days so that the specialist doctor can assess progress and administer a touch-up if necessary.

Botox (the commercial name for botulinum toxin) has become very popular due to its immediate results and safety profile. It is a natural substance that will gradually be reabsorbed by the body over time. When this occurs, the initial condition will return, meaning the botulinum toxin will need to be administered again.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in the human body, with an important function: stimulating the production of collagen. Collagen is responsible for hydrating the skin, filling in wrinkles, and maintaining firm, well-defined lips.

With higher levels of hyaluronic acid in the body, wrinkles and dark circles become less visible. The skin also looks healthier overall, projecting a more youthful appearance.

Over time, the body’s natural levels of hyaluronic acid decline. It is therefore important to replenish them. There are several ways to do this, such as consuming foods rich in hyaluronic acid or taking supplements. However, injections are always the most effective option, as they allow a significantly higher concentration of the product to be delivered precisely where it is most needed.

So… Botox or Hyaluronic Acid?

As you can see, both methods are effective for achieving different goals. There are, however, key differences. Botox is highly powerful, but can never be injected outside the upper third of the face.

Our advice is to consult a specialist doctor who can recommend whether Botox or hyaluronic acid is more suitable for you. These treatments can also be combined with other highly effective options, such as mesotherapy or facial PRP. The possibilities are many!
