Natural vitamins for hair are an excellent option. There are many that can help us fight alopecia and hair loss, but each one has different functions. In addition, there are other 100% natural compounds that complement the best medical treatments or hair transplants. Would you like to learn more about them? At Instituto Médico del Prado, we are here to help.
Vitamin C is one of the most beneficial vitamins for our hair, as it offers numerous benefits. It reduces the duration of the hair growth phases, allowing hair to grow faster while reducing hair loss. In addition, vitamin C protects against dandruff and helps reduce the appearance of grey hair. Vitamin C also improves blood circulation, which promotes healthier, stronger hair growth.
Vitamin D is one of the healthiest vitamins for hair growth because it improves the interaction between the immune system and the hair. Thanks to vitamin D, the immune system is better able to distinguish between bacteria and the body’s own tissues, promoting healthy hair growth. When we are deficient in vitamin D, hair may fall out due to an autoimmune reaction that should not occur.

- Vitamines B3, B6 and B12 play a particularly important role in nourishing the scalp by promoting the production of keratin, the essential component responsible for the hair’s shine, softness, and volume. A higher level of keratin in the body helps keep the hair healthier and, consequently, better able to withstand the daily stresses it is exposed to.
- Vitamines B5 and B1 are nutrients that significantly improve the appearance of the hair. Their moisturising properties increase hair shine and nourish the roots, giving the hair a healthier appearance.
- As vitamine C, vitamine E improves blood circulation in the scalp, helping to strengthen the hair. This is the same effect that we achieve much more quickly with our hair treatments. In addition, vitamin E improves hair hydration and protects the hair from the oxidative effects of sun exposure.
Other components beyond natural vitamins for hair
- Pumpkin seed oil targets the root cause of alopecia: the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a compound that our body produces when testosterone reaches the hair follicle root and creates an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. Pumpkin seed oil is a natural DHT blocker.
- Biotin is an extremely important tool in the fight against hair loss. This nutrient promotes the growth of rapidly reproducing tissues, such as hair. As a result, the hair becomes denser, more elastic, and less prone to breakage. Consequently, more hair grows, and less hair is lost.
- Zinc’s main benefit in combating hair loss is its ability to regulate hormonal changes, one of the leading causes of alopecia. In this way, a greater proportion of hairs return to the growth phase, helping to restore hair density. Zinc is also able to restore melanin and eliminate dandruff.
- Copper is another element that helps restore melanin, the pigment responsible for the colour of the skin, eyes, and, of course, hair. Copper catalyses the reaction between melanocytes and the enzyme tyrosinase, which is responsible for melanin production.
- Selenium is one of the main nutrients involved in eliminating dandruff and, consequently, improving overall hair health. It also works particularly well alongside zinc, as it helps regulate hormonal changes and combats the appearance of grey hair.
